A background color key concept from the Don Bluth Studios animated film "The Land Before Time" (1988). Featuring a gorgeous rendering of Mama Longneck looking ferociously defensive in front of a gloomy cloudy sky, the concept was created at the studio and used during the early production of the film. The concept backgrounds were used to develop and finalize the color palette, layout of the action, and the overall feel of the scene. When a color concept is finalized during production, it becomes the reference tool that animators use to paint cels and backgrounds, as well as to further progress through the storyboarding and layout of the individual scenes. Measuring 4.5"x14.25" overall, with the character image measuring 4.25"x13.75", the color key concept is in very good condition with minimal edge wear.
