An original concept painting from the Walt Disney Studios animated film Fantasia (1940). Featuring a forested environment from the Pastoral Symphony sequence, the painting was created at the studio and used during the development process. The evocative watercolor imagery was created by Disney Legend and revered story man Mel Shaw. Measuring 10"x12" overall and with an image area measuring 7"x10", the concept art is in very good condition with light wrinkling to the sindes, light edge wear, and pin holes on the top edge. The reverse of the paper features a studio credits stamp identifying the artist as M. Schwartzman, Mel Shaw's birth name Melvin Schwartzman. Shaw's work is highly regarded for its artistic vision that transcends standard animation art, and work from this early in his career is seldomly available.
