A hand-painted cel and background setup from the Nepenthe Studios animated cult classic "Watership Down" (1978). Featuring Pipkin and Hazel, the hand-painted cel and background were created at the studio and used during the animation process. The numbering and style would suggest this is when Hazel begins to tell their story to the rabbits of Cowslip’s Warren. This image never appears in the film, so it may have been cut, but it does appear online as a promotional image from the film. Measuring 11”x14.5” overall, with the character image area measuring 9”x10.25”, the unique studio setup is in very good condition with visible overall edge and corner wear to cels and background, adhesive tape and residue on the edges and corners, staple holes, small rips along the background edges, and notable creases along cel layer edges at the top left corner.
