“Watership Down” Bigwig & Pipkin Matching Production Cel and Background (1978) - ID: jun26022

A production cel and background setup from the Nepenthe Studios animated cult classic "Watership Down" (1978). Featuring Bigwig and Pipkin, the hand-painted cel and background were created at the studio and used during the animation process. The piece is an actual frame of animation that was photographed and appears in the film. The image is seen at about 1:21:01 when Pipkin helps Bigwig prepare Watership Down for General Woundwort’s impending attack. The cels both match the background but do not match each other exactly, and there is another layer with additional rabbits that is missing. Measuring 10.5”x13” overall, with the character image area measuring 5.75”x6.75”, the setup is in very good condition with light edge and corner wear and the lower left corner of the background is torn away.
