Walt Peregoy Golden Horseshoe Saloon Painting - ID: octdisneyana18612

This is an original inspiration painting created by Walt Disney Studios and WED artist, Walt Peregoy. The wonderful imagery captures a scene from within the Golden Horseshoe Saloon at the Disneyland Theme Park. The painting is accomplished in pastel and ink on paper and is signed and dated in the lower right corner by the artist, "Peregoy '55". This dating signifies that the painting was created the same year as the opening of the theme park. During this time period, Peregoy had just seen his concept work on 101 Dalmatians come to life with its release also occurring in 1955, and he was about to embark on his work as lead background painter on Sleeping Beauty. It is possible that this painting was created in the first half of 1955, as a final "set decoration" concept created by Peregoy to assist with the last stages of opening the park, but we believe it is more likely that this was a life study or inspirational piece created as he took in the lively and energetic atmosphere of Walt Disney's newly opened park. The painting is in excellent condition, unexamined out of frame, and features color usage, line work, and layout that emphasizes the style of Peregoy which was so influential in his work with 101 Dalmatians, Sleeping Beauty, and EPCOT Center. The image of the piece measures 10.5" x 14.5" within a 17.5" x 20.5" frame.
