A photostat model sheet from the Walt Disney Studios animated masterpiece "Peter Pan" (1953). Featuring an early design concept for a pirate created in 1940, the model sheet was created at the studio and used during the animation process to ensure character consistency among animators. Peter Pan was made during a time when foreign and minority cultures were parodied and caricatured for comedy. The use of stereotypes for jokes was not recognized as an insensitive practice, the way that it is now. Characters like this would never be suggested in a modern Disney film. Measuring 11”x14” overall, with the image area measuring 9”x12.75”, the model sheet is in very good condition with wear from age and handling including discoloration, edge and corner wear, and pin holes in corners.
