A watercolor painting by renowned artist and animator Lee Blair. The painting features a gorgeous Mojave Desert landscape with cowboys roping a herd of horses and was created in 1941. The horses are painted on a cel overlay, incorporated animation style techniques into his fine art painting. Blair started his career focusing on watercolors, winning several prestigious awards, including the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics Art Division Gold Medal for his work. Shortly after in the mid-1930s, he shifted his creative talents to animation, beginning with "Flip the Frog" at the Ub Iwerks Studio, onto "Bosko" shorts at Harman-Ising, and finally at the Disney Studios working on projects like "Pinocchio, "Bambi," and "Fantasia." In the 1950s Blair again shifted his talents to focus on film advertising. Measuring 26.5"x30.5" framed, with an opening measuring 17"x21", the painting is in fine condition unexamined out of the frame, which displays minimal wear.
