This is a very rare production maquette from the classic Walt Disney Studios feature film, Pinocchio (1940). This maquette is an wonderful sculpt of Geppetto pensively thinking. Maquettes like this are used in production by the lead animators as a three dimensional reference of the characters design, so they have a physical tool that they can rotate and study the designs they are capturing in their drawings. Production maquettes rarely become available due to the limited number that are created, the high desirability, and the general fragile nature of the pieces. These vintage maquettes are increasingly hard to find as they are made of plaster and are EXTREMELY fragile. Amazingly, this particular maquette came from the personal collection of Disney Legend, and one of the Nine Old Men, Frank Thomas! The maquette measures 8.5" x 4" x 3.5" and is in good condition for its age, as it is unrestored, and does show the anticipated signs of wear for a plaster sculpture that is currently almost eighty years old.
