A stunning original concept painting by Eyvind Earle for the Disney Studios animated masterpiece "Sleeping Beauty" (1959). Featuring Briar Rose and Prince Phillip dancing amidst a dimly lit and dense forest, the concept painting is accomplished in gouache on illustration board and is hand-signed by Earle. The image showcases his incredible sense of depth and unique style, which inspired the iconic look of the film. Earle was hired by Disney in 1951 as an assistant background painter. He worked on several productions throughout the early and mid-50s, but it was his work on Sleeping Beauty as both concept artist and color stylist that made his mark in Disney history. With an incredible sense of art and design, Earle created what is considered by many to be the high point of Disney animation. Measuring 15.5"x28.25" framed with the mat opening measuring 8.5"x21.25", the painting is in very good condition with anticipated pin holes in corners and slight bowing to the illustration board.
