This is an original master production background from the Walt Disney Studios production of Pinocchio (1940). This hand-painted background features the deck of Geppetto's ship while inside of Monstro's mouth. This stunning hand-painted background was created at the studio and used during the production of the film. This background was created by Disney Legend Claude Coates and is accomplished in watercolor paints on illustration paper. Master backgrounds such as this are extremely rare as only one would be created for an entire scene, and sometimes used for multiple scenes. The overall measurements of the piece are 12" x 24.5" within a mat that measures 18" x 31", and the image itself measures 11.5" x 24". This background is in excellent condition and has a well documented history.
