A model cel from the Hanna Barbera animated series "The Smurfs" (1981). Featuring Handy Smurf and his drafting easel, the hand-painted cel was created at the studio and used during the animation process. Model cels are created during production in the same manner as screen shot production cels, but are used for reference by the animators, and the ink and paint department to ensure consistent character design and color usage for characters in a production. Measuring 10.5"x12.5" overall, with the image area measuring 6.5"x9.5", the cel is in very good condition with slight line wear, edge and corner wear, pinholes from studio use, and staples attaching the celluloid to a paper backing.
