This is an original concept painting from the Walt Disney Studios production Sleeping Beauty (1959). This hand-painted design features a knight approaching Sleeping Beauty Castle as King Stefan and Queen Leah invite everyone to see their newborn Princess Aurora. This painting was created by Disney Legend Eyvind Earle, and it is a stunning example of how his artistic vision became the basis for the classic feature. Earle's vision was so influential that this concept is nearly identical to the final on screen imagery that was created in this scene of the film. It was created at the studio and used during the film's development, in order to develop the color pallette and overall feel of the environment. The overall measurements of the piece are 19" x 28" framed with the mat opening showing the entire floated piece and the image takes up the entire board. The painting has been hand-signed by the artist in the lower right corner and is accomplished with paints on illustration board. The concept is in very good condition with pin holes in the corners from studio use.
