A photostat model sheet from a 1950s animated commercial for Mohawk Carpets. Featuring the company’s mascot Mohawk Tommy, as well as side characters Chatter and Minnie, the model sheet was created at the studio and used during the animation process to ensure character consistency among animators. During the 1950s, Walt Disney’s niece, Phyllis Bounds, operated Hurrell Productions on the Disney lot with her husband George Hurrell. They were responsible for creating animated commercials in that era and utilized the artistry of Disney animators and freelance animators, sometimes resulting in characters strongly resembling Disney favorites like the Chip ‘n’ Dale inspired chimpunk here. Measuring 14”x17” overall, with the image area measuring 12.25”x15.25”, the model sheet is in good condition with wear from age and handling including yellowing and discoloration, edge and corner wear, notable tears along the upper and lower edges, and a vertical crease down the center of the sheet.
